Taper / finisher are specialized workers in the construction industry who install corners, apply mud and sand walls and ceilings in residential and commercial buildings.
As a part of their job taper/finisher will perform some or all the following duties:
Taper / Finisher Responsibilities:
Spread sealing compound between boards or panels or over cracks, holes, nail heads, or screw heads, using trowels, broad knives, or spatulas.
Apply sealants or other protective coatings.
Press paper tape over joints to embed tape into sealing compound and to seal joints
Apply additional coats to fill in holes and make surfaces smooth
Apply material to fill gaps in surfaces
Seal joints between plasterboard or other wallboard to prepare wall surfaces for painting or papering
Apply material to fill gaps in surfaces
Spread and smooth cementing material over tape, using trowels or floating machines to blend joints with wall surfaces
Apply adhesives to construction materials
Sand or patch nicks or cracks in plasterboard or wallboard
Smooth surfaces with abrasive materials or tools.
Mix sealing compounds with portable electric mixers
Mix substances or compounds needed for work activities
Work on high ceilings using scaffolding or other tools, such as stilts.
Climb equipment or structures to access work areas.
Select the correct sealing compound or tape
Countersink nails or screws below surfaces of walls before applying sealing compounds, using hammers or screwdrivers
Drill holes in construction materials.
Remove extra compound after surfaces have been covered sufficiently
Remove excess materials from finished construction projects
Install metal molding at wall corners to secure wallboard
Apply texturizing compounds or primers to walls or ceilings before final finishing, using trowels, brushes, rollers, or spray guns
Prepare surfaces for finishing
Check adhesives to ensure that they will work and will remain durable
Use mechanical applicators that spread compounds and embed tape in one operation.
Sand rough spots of dried cement between applications of compounds
Smooth surfaces with abrasive materials or tools
Prepare the panel for painting by finishing joints and surface imperfections
Must be able and be certify with working in heights and to use an hydraulic platforms
Assemble and dismantle scaffoldings
Observe work shift schedules for optimum work productivity. The typical schedule Monday to Friday 7 am to 15:15.
